Sunset on Burnet Bay, December 21, 2021

Sunset on Burnet Bay, Dec 14, 2021

Another nice sunset on Burnet Bay, Dec 2, 2021.  Looks like the big cloud is chasing the smaller one….

Two photos of the sunset on Burnet Bay November 30, 2021:

First Burnet Bay sunset photo as the sun approaches the horizon on November 30, 2021

Second sunset photo on Burnet Bay on November 30, 2021. Note the high wispy cirrus cloud is still white and has not yet been illuminated with pink color like the lower stratocumulus clouds.

Sunset rays on Burnet Bay, Nov 18, 2021. Can you find the two brown pelicans flying home? (actually if you zoom in, there are a hundred or so birds near the horizon in the distance)

Sunset of Burnet Bay after the first cool weather of the fall – Oct 17, 2021

Sunset on Burnet Bay, August 25, 2021

Young heron watching the sunset on Burnet Bay – August 13, 2021

Raining “on” the sunset on Burnet Bay – August 12, 2021.  In an otherwise clear sky, there was a large rain cloud to the west pouring rain just right of the center of the photo with the sun setting behind….

Brown Pelican heading home at sunset on Burnet Bay – May 7, 2021

Sunset on Burnet Bay on April 18, 2021. I am posting this sunset from a few days ago – I was busy finishing and loading up my wildflower photos so it had to wait.

Three photos of the Sunset on Burnet Bay on March 28, 2021.  I captured 8 nice photos of the sunset on the glassy water surface of Burnet Bay after the rain passed through. It was hard to decide which few to post on my blog….

Simple sunset on Burnet Bay, February 19, 2021, after the big freeze…

Sunset on Burnet Bay, January 27, 2021. Cool front cleared the gray skies and provided the bands of high clouds for this sunset. The tiny rectangles on the right horizon is the city of Houston skyline.

Sunset on Burnet Bay January 22, 2021 – I took this photo with the slightly choppy water on the bay as the sun was setting above the Sam Houston Toll Road Ship Channel  bridge and thought that was it for the night.  Glanced up another 40 minutes later to see the water surface was calm with a nice reflection for the photo below. Amazing how quickly things can change.

Burnet Bay sunset, same day 40 minutes later (January 22, 2021)

Christmas day sunset on a calm Burnet Bay.  Happy holidays!

Sunset on Burnet Bay as a cold front rolls in, Dec 13, 2020.

Sunset on Burnet Bay with Battleship Texas conning tower and Beltway 8 Bridge – Nov 22, 2020

Sunset in Lajitas, TX on Nov 9th 2020 after a small cool front blew through.  Tomorrow we hike in Big Bend National Park.

Sunset on Burnet Bay, Oct 12, 2020.  The skyline of Houston is on the far right horizon. On September 27th, the sun set just to the right of the Houston skyline (see 3rd photo below). In the fall and spring the sunset visually moves quite a bit across the horizon. (Photo with 300mm lens and leaning against a tree – not enough time to get a tripod)

Sunset on the San Jacinto Monument across Burnet Bay with the outer cloud bands of Hurricane Delta – Oct 9, 2020

Eight Brown Pelicans heading south on Burnet Bay at sunset.  These Pelicans are conserving energy by gliding just above the surface of the water using the built up cushion of air between their wings and the water surface for additional lift. This phenomenon is called the ground effect.  The US military spent much time and money attempting to do this with aircraft but found at high speed this close to the water, it was not practical to control the aircraft and keep from dipping a wing into the water and crashing . The pelicans also fly in a line – less air resistance for the ones behind the lead – they take turns being in the lead allowing the lead bird to drop back and rest.  Can you find the dragonfly that found its way into the photo?

The sun setting next to the Houston skyline across Burnet Bay – Sept 27, 2020.  Tomorrow, conditions permitting, the view of the sun’s position at at my location at sunset will be directly behind the buildings of downtown Houston – happens once in the fall and once in the spring each year.  (photo with 300mm lens)

Sunset on Burnet Bay, August 26, 2020 – Outer rainbands of Hurricane Laura (on the “dry” side)

Sunset on Burnet Bay, Aug 25, 2020 – “The calm before the storm” (Hurricane Laura expected to arrive on the gulf coast in about a day)
